“Growing up in the suburbs of Atlanta my family did not have a garden.

My connection to nature came from my parents’ love of camping and the outdoors. As I grew up, that love of nature grew. When I had children of my own I wanted to share that love with them and to expand their horizons of life beyond the suburbs. I wanted them to really know how crops were grown and animals were raised. We moved to the country when Mariah was five. We acquired chickens, goats, dogs, cats and kittens. Gardening was a big part of our life. (We once spent a day lying in a big field of red clover just to be outdoors with a feverous child.) The whole family worked in the garden, learning to tend the veggies they wanted to grow and eat.”

VISION STATEMENT

Turtle Island Natural Foods Market is a holistic community center

that supports the nourishment of body and soul supported by food

that is cultivated with minimal impact to our environment.

PHILOSOPHY

Our market concept was developed from brainstorming about food ideals and products. The result is our “Back to Basics” philosophy. We are constantly trying to reduce waste.  A customer now takes our organic veggie scrapes home to feed her chickens. We are constantly trying to buy localy made products...from the Eastern Seaboard!   Look for the dots on our products that say "Local". And we are constantly trying to provide you with fabulous foods that are certified organic whole foods.

Our aim is to sell foods that contain NO genetically modified plants or animals, artificial coloring, artificial flavoring, partially hydrogenated oils, trans fats, bleached white flour or MSG. We make sure that nothing is irradiated, and that meats and dairy contain NO antibiotics or growth hormones.
